Aquamarine (Blue Beryl), named from the Latin word for seawater, is said to calm our nerves, remove anxiety, depression and fear. It has been used by ancient mariners for safe passage whilst at sea. These crystals were believed to be the treasures of mermaids (how fun!). Connected with the moon and the clear blue sky reflected on the water's surface, Aquamarine can be used for crystal gazing, a form of scrying where we look for signs in the gems to direct us in life; just as some people use a large bowl of water to peer into.
